Cable Broadband

For home use, main types of broadband are ADSL broadband, which uses the ordinary phone line as transmission media, and cable broadband, which uses cable to connect PC to the Internet.

Almost all broadband ISPs in UK provides ADSL broadband, for example BT Broadband, AOL Broadband, Tiscali Broadband or Be Broadband. Today, there are scores, even hundreds of broadband ISPs in UK, but only a few provides cable broadband. the most famous cable broadband provider is Virgin Media Broadband. Virgin Media came from two companies - Telewest and NTL. The two merged into one company three years ago and then rename to Virgin Media.

If you don't have phone line and don't need one (though the number of such people is quite few), cable broadband is cheaper because you don't need to pay for the phone line rental fee.

But cable broadband is not available everywhere. You must check the cable broadband availability in advance.

Most families have a phone line, and are paying line rental already. To them, cable broadband is not so attractive in price. And lots of broadband ISPs offer ADSL broadband with phone bundles for cheaper price. Another advantage of choosing ADSL is that you can have more choices.

However, don't forget SKY broadband. SKY broadband also provides cable broadband. They use the cable providing TV programs to give their customers broadband service through that line as well. They offer a variety of bundles including different TV packages, broadband services and phone calls. If you are a SKY TV user, it's worthy to view their packages.
